Bloomberg’s Economics Team shares our view that it may indeed be a notable rough patch for stocks that ultimately brings the trade war to a close.
From today’s Economics Brief:
“The more extensive Trump’s tariffs are, the more pain will be felt by U.S. corporations that produce in, or sell into, the Chinese market. The very fact that Apple had to be exempted from the latest $200 billion round is a reminder of how deeply enmeshed U.S. firms are in Asian value chains. Ultimately, expectations of a drag on corporate earnings resulting in a high-visibility drop in the S&P 500 could be the trigger for Trump to reconsider his protectionist stance.”
